Can I reserve a storage unit in advance?

Yes! You can reserve a storage unit for free at Selvbetjeningslageret AS. The reservation is 100% free and non-binding as long as it is cancelled before the rental start date. How large are the storage units?

We offer storage rooms in all sizes, from small units of 3 m³ to large rooms of over 50 m³. Whether you need space for furniture, belongings, seasonal equipment or business storage, we have a solution that fits your needs. Unsure about size? Call us at 55 25 95 90.

How long can I rent a storage unit?

You can rent a storage unit with us for as long as you like. The rental is ongoing until you choose to terminate it. The minimum rental period is only 14 days.

Do I need to pay upfront?

You pay the first month's rent upfront when you start your rental. After that, we send monthly invoices. You can also prepay for several months if you prefer.

Do you run a credit check when I rent?

Yes, a credit check is conducted when you rent storage with us. We always inform you before running the check, and you will receive a copy letter by post or email.

Which payment methods are available?

We offer several flexible payment options: bank card (BankAxept), credit card (Visa and Mastercard), invoice, AvtaleGiro, eFaktura, and EHF for businesses. For private customers, AvtaleGiro or eFaktura is most convenient as payment is automatic. For businesses, we recommend EHF for streamlined accounting.

When can I move into the storage unit?

Once you have signed the lease, you get immediate access to your storage unit or container. The process is simple, digital, and efficient — you can start storing your belongings the same day. A standard credit check is conducted for all new customers at the time of signing.

What do I need to sign a lease?

You need a valid photo ID and a Norwegian national identification number to sign a lease with Selvbetjeningslageret AS. A driver's license, bank card, or passport are accepted as valid photo ID.

When do I have access to my storage?

Our facilities are self-service. You have access to your storage every day from 06:00–23:00, 365 days a year.

Do I need my own padlock?

Yes, you must secure your storage unit with your own padlock. If you don't already have one, you can easily purchase a padlock in our moving store when you rent.

Do I need my own insurance?

We unfortunately do not insure your belongings as we have no control over the values individual customers store. Most customers are covered through their own home insurance. We recommend contacting your insurance company to clarify coverage for the items you store.

How do I transport my things to the storage facility?

We make the moving process as smooth as possible. We offer van rentals and 6 box trailers for those who want to move themselves. Can I rent a trailer, trolley, or van from you?

Yes! When you rent storage with us, you can also borrow a trailer, trolleys, and a rental van at a reasonable price. Call us at 55 25 95 90 for information, pricing, and reservations.

Do you offer storage for businesses?

Yes, a large portion of our customers are businesses. At some of our locations, we can also receive goods on behalf of your business. Call us at 55 25 95 90 for more information and we'll tailor a storage solution for your company.

Do you sell moving supplies?

We sell moving boxes, plastic wrap, bubble wrap, and tissue paper. Call us at 55 25 95 90 and we'll put together a custom packing kit for your needs. We also offer high-quality plastic moving crates for rent — perfect for moving in rainy Bergen.

Do you need moving help?

Move out information

What is the notice period?

At Selvbetjeningslageret AS you can terminate your storage unit at any time during the month, and the rental will automatically run until the end of the current month. This means you only pay for the month you are in, regardless of which date you submit the termination.

How do I end my rental?

For the rental to be considered terminated, the unit must be completely empty and without a padlock, and the checkout form must be submitted. The rental is considered ended when the form has been received and registered. You can find the checkout form on our website.

Can I switch to a different storage unit if my needs change?

Yes! At Selvbetjeningslageret AS you have full flexibility. If you need a larger or smaller storage unit, you can easily switch to another unit without any hassle. Call us at 55 25 95 90 and we'll be happy to help.

What fits in the different storage sizes?

• 3 m³: 10–15 moving boxes, bikes, skis, seasonal equipment and suitcases, small furniture. Perfect for students and seasonal storage. • 5–8 m³: 20–30 boxes, pram, hobby and leisure equipment, small furniture. Perfect for a bedsit or small apartment. • 10–12 m³: 30–50 boxes, bed, sofa, TV unit, appliances, smaller furniture set. Perfect for belongings from a studio apartment. • 15 m³: 40–60 boxes, sofa, dining table with chairs, bed, wardrobe, appliances. Perfect for a 1–2 room apartment. • 20–25 m³: 60–80 boxes, complete living room and bedroom furniture, dining set, business storage. Perfect for a 2–3 room apartment. • 30–35 m³: 80–120 boxes, corner sofa, wardrobe, long dining table, appliances, sports and garden equipment. Perfect for 3–4 room apartments. • 40–50 m³: Full contents of a house (100–150 m²), 120+ boxes, tools, sports equipment, business inventory.

Why is 2.7 metre ceiling height an advantage?

A 2.7 metre ceiling height gives 20–30% better space utilisation than standard storage height, allows for safer and higher stacking, and is ideal for tall items such as wardrobes, bookshelves, and equipment.

Business customers and storage solutions

Selvbetjeningslageret AS offers modern and secure storage solutions for businesses of all sizes. With units from 3 to 50 m³ and 2.7 metre ceiling height, you get optimal space utilisation and the flexibility to scale up or down as needed. Businesses can store: tools, machines and equipment, inventory and campaign goods, e-commerce stock, documents and archives, furniture and fittings, seasonal equipment, project materials, and exhibition/marketing materials. We also offer goods receiving (by arrangement), rental of trolleys/trailers/vans, and multi-user access for employees. Access from 06:00–23:00; 24-hour access can be arranged.
